The
student council is made up of representatives, one from each language arts
class. Every year, each class votes on a representative who will speak for
them at the meetings. The entire school votes on the student council officers:
president, vice-president, recording secretary, corresponding secretary,
treasurer, and historian. Only sixth graders can run for officer. If you
run for president, you have to give a speech to be played on the broadcast.
Each person running for an office may place a poster in the main hallway.
Once all of this is decided, student council holds meetings biweekly. The
student council mainly focuses on spirit, fund raising, and helping out
the community. Some of the things that they do are: cleaning up the lakefront,
a silver war (in which each class has a jar that they put coins in), and
giving T-shirts to the needy. Student council really makes MMS great!
