Seagull Parish Postal Service

In 1992, the Seagull Parish Postal Service was founded as a part of the Wee Deliver Program of the U.S. Postal Service. A contest was held in January of 1992 to decide what the stamp would look like. Michael Stakelum and Matthew Jaeger both won. Even today we use those same designs. Mandeville Middle School was the first school in St. Tammany Parish to be a part of this program.

Thirteen new workers are hired every semester: 1 Postmaster, 1 Payroll Clerk, 2 Nixie Clerks, 5 Letter Carriers, 2 Filers, and 2 Sorters. To work in the Post Office a student must fill out a job application, have it signed by their parents, and turn it in to the librarian. Next, you must pass an exam and score at least a 9 out of 10. If you pass, you must have an interview with the librarian. If you are hired, you will work in the mornings when you get to school and in the afternoon right before you leave.
