Dear Parents:

This is a short and busy week at MMS. Thursday evening is Family Fun Night at school. There are many activities planned for the entire family. The Book Fair will be open that evening for anyone who would like to purchase books. The monthly food drive is being held this week. The food will be picked up on Thursday. There is no school for students on Friday so they will have a long weekend!
Several sixth grade classes, including ours, will go on a field trip to the World War II Museum on March 23rd. Permission slips are going home today and need to be returned by March 22nd. Grades for the third nine weeks will close on this Thursday. Please remember, if you have any questions or concerns feel free to email or call me at school.
Sincerely:
Anne Peirce

THIS WEEK

Language: We will complete the unit on prepositions, conjunctions, and interjections this week. Students will review the chapter on Wednesday and will complete the assessment on Thursday.

Spelling: This week we will study lesson 31. The prefixes this week will be: Hyper (beyond, more than needed), hypo (under), ultra(beyond) and semi(half, partly). The quiz will be on Thursday this week as there is not school on Friday.

Reading: Students will complete their version of Cinderella. They will also, in cooperative groups, prepare a presentation of an international Cinderella story to present to the class. I am certain these presentations will be wonderful. I have graded most of the book projects and am pleased to say that most students did very well. I also have decided that I need to read The Lightening Thief because so many of the students are reading and enjoying this novel, although they have said the movie is very different from the book!

Social Studies: We continue on with our study of Greece. This week we will explore the differences between Athens and Sparta in more depth. Students will also create a booklet about the Greek gods. Writing their names using the Greek alphabet will allow the students the opportunity to compare their alphabet to our own. I think they will be surprised at how similar the two alphabets are.
