| Chorus
Auditions
for chorus are held once a year. Students will receive a time from the music director.
At the audition, students will sing a simple song while the music director listens.
In about five days, the names of the students who passed the audition will be
posted. When
the students go to chorus, they will start to learn Christmas songs for the Christmas
programs. The chorus performs for the students and teachers at MMS, the PTA, and
on the Tammany Trace. After the Christmas performances, students will start to
learn spring songs to perform for the students and teachers at MMS and the PTA
at the end of the school year. If you would like to join chorus, please speak
with the music director. Written

Orff
To
join Orff, the student must ask the music director for a time to audition for
the orff program. The student will take a written theory test and a sight reading
test. The music director will chose 15 students to join the Orff program. At Orff
class, students will learn Christmas songs to perform for the students and staff
at MMS, the MMS PTA, and at Holiday Lights at the Tammany Trace. After the Christmas
holiday, the students will work on songs to perform for the Spring Festival and
the end of the year program. For times to try out for the Orff program, please
see your music director. Written

Band
If
music makes your day, maybe you should try out for Mandeville Middle School's
Band program. The band program consists of three parts: beginner band (5th graders),
advanced band (6th graders), and recorders (4th grade). You can try out for any
of the following instruments: flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, or
the drums. You could also be lucky enough to play the bells. Sixth graders can
try out for honor band in April. If
you're going to join band, you are going to have to practice your songs because
there are a few concerts in the year. The 6th and 5th grade bands have two concerts:
a winter and a spring. The winter concert is around Christmas and the spring concert
is usually in May. Written

Violin
Program The
Violin Program was started by a man named Shinichi Suzuki. The program started
in the 1980's, and few public schools had the program. Then, after the public
schools began the program, it was only in the elementary schools. Next, it went
to middle schools and then all schools. A letter goes out each fall for students
to sign up for the program. Most students start in elementary school, but you
could start in middle school or even high school. The Violin Program offers two
concerts a year; these concerts are called parish concerts. Up to twenty schools
participate in the parish concerts. The strings also play for Arts Night at Mandeville
Middle held in April. The
Violin Program has one string class a week and it is not only for violin; cellos
are played as well as other string instruments, too. Written
