NOTES TO PARENTS

*AR goals have been set for my students! I challenge you all to meet your goals! Have your book at school every day and test immediately after you finish your book.

*PBS stresses the Fish Philosophy in the month of August. PBS focus for September is Citizenship

This Week at a Glance

Spelling - The students will sort words with ie and ei spelling patterns. They will work on word meanings as well. A spelling test will be given on Friday.

English - We will continue identifying subjects and predicates and will write a friendly letter. We will also produce a writing sample after reviewing the steps in the writing process. An English test on subjects and predicates will be given on Wednesday.

Reading - "Time for Kids" and "Gecko Glue, Cockroach Scouts, and Spider Silk Bridges" will be used for nonfiction articles. Vocabulary and main ideas will be stressed. No test this week, but a "Cold Read" will be given. (Students read independently and answer questions on a selection.)

Social Studies - We will cover early farmers and the development of cultures this week. Read over notes every night. A vocabulary test on the second half of words will be given on Thursday.
