Middle School's cooking center is named after a former fourth-grade teacher
named Yvonne Fontenot. She taught from 1978 - 1994 and was always trying
to get other teachers to incoporate cooking into their teaching schedules.
Many of her own ways of teaching used cooking. When she passed away in
the summer of 1994, the other teachers decided to turn her classroom into
a cooking center. In 1995, the Yvonne Fontenot Cooking Center was opened.
The
cooking center is used for many things such as cooking, art and demonstrations.
Some of the art that we do in the cooking center is papermaking, Chinese
Happy New Year cards, fish prints, and many other interesting things.
Some of the demonstrations are electrical workers and how they work on
power lines and guitar players. Of course, the cooking center is used
to cook many great recipes.
