PBS focus for March: Cooperation

English/Language Arts

Unit 31
Spelling Words and Contract will be sent home each Monday and due every Friday.
Spelling Contracts DUE Friday
Final TEST on Friday
The Spelling Contract is designed so that each day the students will have a specific skill on which to focus.

Reading:
Each stud
ent will read independently daily for 20 minutes. During this independent reading time, the students will be reading or writing about what they are reading. The students are to select their own reading materials. This can range from magazines, library books, books from home, etc.

In preparation for the reading portion of the LEAP test, we will be reading short stories each day using strategies that all good readers use in order to answer multiple choice and short answer questions.

Language Arts:
Grammar:
We will be studying/reviewing parts of speech; correcting sentences for grammatical errors: spelling, punctuation, capitalization, etc.

TEST FRIDAY

Writing:
Using the Thinking Maps process and Write From the Beginning method we will be writing each day on various topics preparing for the written portion of the LEAP test.

Math
This week our focus will be on path lengths, object transformations, and fractions.
We will be using Study Island to reinforce our math skills.
We continue to use the PACE strategy to solve word problems as this strengthens our writing and explaining in math. We will be solving various word problems.
