PBS focus for November: Self-Discipline


We follow the FISH Philosophy in our classroom. We continue to review the FISH philosophy daily….Choose Your Attitude, Make Their Day, Be There, HAVE FUN!

PBS---Positive Behavior Support:
Responsibility is the focus for the month of October. We will be discussing Responsibility daily in our community meeting.

English/Language Arts

Spelling:
Unit 14
Spelling Words and Contract will be sent home each Monday and due every Friday.
Spelling Contracts DUE Friday
Final TEST on Friday
The Spelling Contract is designed so that each day the students will have a specific skill on which to focus.

Reading:
Each student will read independently daily for 20 minutes. During this independent reading time, the students will be reading or writing about what they are reading. The students are to select their own reading materials. This can range from magazines, library books, books from home, etc.

We will continue reading the novel Little House in the Big Woods by Laura Ingalls Wilder. In this book we will read about the real adventures of Laura. She lives in the deep Wisconsin woods in the late 1870's with her family in a house built of logs.

Language Arts:
Grammar:
This week we will continue our unit on the parts of speech. We will continue our focus on adverbs. What is a adverb? Where do they present themselves in sentences?
TEST FRIDAY
Writing:

Using the Thinking Maps process and Write From the Beginning method we will discuss and write a paragraph on responsibility.

Math
4th Begin 3, 4,5-digit addition and subtraction: 2-1 and 2-2
6th begin exploring fractions

We are using the PACE strategy to solve word problems. This week we will solve two-step multiplication and division problems.
