The goals of Mandeville Middle School Library are to:

  • provide a collection of instructional materials that support and contribute to the curriculum.
  • provide materials and reference services for the completion of class assignments, homework, and for individual personal growth.
  • provide a pleasant environment for the pursuit of both personal and educational growth.

Library Hours

The library opens at 7:10 A.M. and closes at 2:30 P.M. The library is occasionally closed for meetings. Closings are announced in the morning and posted on the library door. No passes are required before school. During class time, an official pass or note is required. A librarian and an assistant are available to assist patrons using the library.

 

Library Rules

The students, faculty, and staff of Mandeville Middle School share the responsibility of maintaining an envrionment which allows the library to serve the needs of all. Patrons are expected to maintain a quiet and courteous atmosphere and to respect the rules of the school as well as those specifically to the library. Two specific rules in the library are:

No food, drink, or gum are allowed in the library.
A quiet courteous atmosphere must be maintained.

Students who fail to meet their responsibilities in the library, will be given a verbal warning. If it is during regular class time and the misbehavior continues, the student will be sent to the cross-buddy teacher. If this occurs during recess, the student will be asked to leave. Severe disturbance or repeated offenses are dealt with by the principal. If necessary, parents will be notified about student behavior.

 

Checking Out Materials

All materials are checked out at the circulation desk on the computer.

  • BOOKS: Students are allowed to borrow materials for a period of ten school days. Materials may be renewed unless requested by another person, or if the patron has overdue books or outstanding fines.
  • REFERENCE MATERIAL: Students may checkout encyclopedias overnight. All other reference material are restricted to use in the library.
  • PERIODICALS: Periodicals are for use in the library and may be checked out for 10 school days.

All patrons are responsible for any books or magazines checked out in their names. Please alert the librarian to any special circumstances.

Returning Materials

Materials may be returned by placing them in the book drop at the circulation counter.

Fines

Student patrons will be assessed fines as follows for overdue materials:
REGULAR LOAN: $.05 per day for each school day overdue.

OVERNIGHT LOAN: $.25 per day for each school day overdue.

Overdue and fine notices are distributed each nine weeks. All obligations should be cleared as soon as possible. A student with a library obligation may not check out any more materials. Any fines that present a hardship to the student should be brought to the attention of the librarian and a solution will be worked out.

Book Club

The MMS Seagull Book Club meets in the library before school each nine weeks. Students read selected books, discuss favorite authors and books, write to authors and preview books on WMMS TV. At the end of the school year, the Book Club has a luncheon banquet and the favorite book of the year is selected.

Post Office

The Seagull Parish Postal Service is located in the library and delivers mail on a daily basis to all students and faculty at MMS.
